Tata Motors has introduced the Altroz iCNG in India, priced at Rs 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom). This hatchback is a valuable addition to the automaker’s CNG vehicle lineup. What sets it apart from other models is its distinction as the first hatchback in India to feature a sunroof. Additionally, this marks the debut of Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder arrangement in any of their models.
The Altroz iCNG’s external appearance remains identical to the petrol version of the car, with the only distinguishing feature being the ICNG badge at the rear. However, significant changes can be seen in the interior. To create more boot space, the car now accommodates two 30-litre CNG tanks instead of a single larger tank. As a result, the car offers a generous trunk space of 210 litres.
Equipped with advanced features like voice control, an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, and an air purifier, the Altroz iCNG caters to the demands of tech-savvy customers. Following the success of Tiago and Tigor, the Altroz iCNG becomes Tata Motors’ third CNG offering exclusively targeting private customers, making it an appealing choice for young car buyers.
The Altroz iCNG is available in six variants: XE, XM+, XM+(S), XZ, XZ+(S), and XZ+O(S). It offers customers a range of colour options, including Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, and Avenue White.
Powering the Altroz iCNG is a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is important to note that the engine’s performance varies depending on the fuel used. When running on petrol, it produces 88 hp and 115 Nm of peak torque, while with CNG, the power output is reduced to 77 hp and 103 Nm of peak torque.
The new Tata Altroz iCNG faces stiff competition from rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG (starting at Rs 8.35 lakh) and Toyota Glanza (starting at Rs 8.50 lakh) in the Indian market.
Tata Motors has made a significant entry into the CNG vehicle segment in India with the launch of the Altroz iCNG. This hatchback stands out as the country’s first hatchback to offer a sunroof and incorporates Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder arrangement for enhanced performance. With its stylish design, advanced features, and a spacious trunk, the Altroz iCNG caters to the needs of tech-savvy customers seeking a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly car. As it competes with other popular CNG models in the market, Tata Motors aims to capture the attention of young car buyers looking for a compelling CNG proposition.
