UP to become the first state to have 100 % EVs in govt. department

UP EVs

UP to have 100% EVs. The Uttar Pradesh government announced the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022 on 14 October to promote electric vehicles in the state. This policy aims to make Uttar Pradesh a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the state.

Exemption from taxes and registration fee on EVs in UP

One of the key provisions of the policy is a three-year exemption from taxes and registration fees for the purchase of electric vehicles. This exemption applies to all-electric vehicles purchased in the state, whether they are manufactured in the state or not. However, if an electric vehicle is manufactured in the state, the exemption will be applicable for five years instead of three.

Conversion of 100 per cent of vehicles into electric vehicles by 2030

As per the EV policy, all ministries and their subordinate institutions have been instructed to convert 100 per cent of their vehicles into electric vehicles by 2030. This move is in line with the government’s vision of making India a 100 per cent electric vehicle nation by 2030.

Purchase of EVs on a nomination basis in UP

The policy also states that electric vehicles should be purchased on a nomination basis without bidding. The existing cap on the purchase of vehicles for official events should also be relaxed. This move is expected to boost the demand for electric vehicles in the state.

Provision for sourcing of government vehicles

An official of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Ministry said that sourcing of government vehicles has so far been done through tenders on the GeM portal, and electric vehicle companies are not registered there. To address this issue, the policy includes a provision according to which e-vehicles can be approved by government agencies such as the Rajasthan Electronics Instrument Limited (REIL) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and obtained on a nomination basis without bidding.

Final Words!!

The Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022 is a welcome move by the state government to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the state. The three-year exemption from taxes and registration fees, along with the provision for sourcing government vehicles, is expected to boost the demand for electric vehicles in the state. The move towards converting 100 per cent of government vehicles into electric vehicles by 2030 is a significant step towards achieving the government’s vision of making India a 100 per cent electric vehicle nation by 2030.
