So, Maruti Suzuki India is all set to launch the new Jimny off-road SUV in India on June 7, reports Autocar. The new SUV, unveiled at the Auto Expo, has already garnered significant anticipation from customers, with over 30,000 bookings received before the pricing announcement. This eagerly awaited model will enter the Indian market and compete with rivals such as the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny boasts a distinctive boxy design with an off-road appeal. Its unique features include a distinctive hood, round headlights, and round fog lights integrated into the bumper. The SUV will be available in the signature Kinetic Yellow colour, along with other options such as Bluish Black, Pearl Arctic White, and Red. Notably, this will be the global debut of the five-door version of the car in India.
Inside the vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny offers a range of impressive features. These include a 9-inch touchscreen equipped with the SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system and an Arkamis sound system. Additional features encompass cruise control, ABS with EBD, ESP with hill start assist, hill descent assist, six airbags, and a rearview camera.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre NA-K15B petrol engine, delivering 105 horsepower and 134.2 Nm of peak torque. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. In terms of mileage, the manual variant offers approximately 16.94 km/h, while the automatic variant achieves a top speed of 16.39 km/h. To enhance off-road performance, the Jimny is equipped with the AllGrip Pro 4WD system and a low-range transmission featuring 2WD-High, 4WD-High, and 4WD-Low modes.
Considering its competitors and trim levels, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is anticipated to have a starting price range of Rs 10-12 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. This puts it in direct competition with other SUVs in the market.
